Tonight at the Silver Lake Lounge is their second to last show, so come out and say goodbye. Final show will not be until March 29 @ ElCid. Such a great band. I highly suggest going tonight. the good and the bad

Band: She's Your Sister Song: Gravity Why: because they rocked last night and you should vote for them in The YouTube Underground Contest. The Good: drove up the 110, through The Slot into my apartment within 20 minutes. Sure beats the old 1.5 hr commute. The Bad: Pancakes for dinner and coming down with a cold. The Good: A kick ass set by She's Your Sister last night at the Key Club. They sound so much better live than that video above might leave you to believe. The Bad: I knew better in my Bay Area days but why, oh why did I not curb my wheels last night? Stupid $15 ticket from the the fine city of West Hollywood. Yay. The Good: Catching the first night of Great Northern 's set at the Echo. I've had a few tracks in my music mix and briefly caught them from afar at Sunset Junction, but nothing beats seeing a band in its truest form, live and in person. I recommend checking them out one of these Mondays (for free) with Division Day on the 20th and Irving ...

smiling

It's the ones with the pretty faces and cute noses that remind me of cherry tomatoes small, rounded and sweet. This has nothing to do with this unpublished draft from last week but with a conversation I had with friend awhile back. Her tales of cute nose pointed straight into the wind worldly adventures brought a smile to my face and a song to go along with it. That whole perfect timing of song and mood I'd mentioned before. It happens to me ALL the time. A couple weeks I was standing up front during Kiss or Kill; not that it was all that exciting on a scene level, more as an eyes closed, music absorption moment that made only me smile. I'm weird like that I guess. Smile no 1 I've been enjoying The New Fidelity since first seeing them back in March 05. They were always good but something about the timing lately has brought more fans to catch up to them and how 'goody' they sound. I among that group of having it just click with me in the last couple months an...

She's Your Sister

"we're from chicago. we play rock music." The quote above, taken from their promo cd, simply sums up the great band She's Your Sister that I'd finally caught up with on Tuesday night at Zen Sushi. Though the first two bands that night were uninspiring enough not to stay for their whole sets, I'd planned on giving SYS my full attention even if they were just so-so live. I already knew that people liked them personally but had yet to hear how good they actually were as a band. Well I was completely blown away (so cliché, I know). Besides having the obvious great songs and talent to play them, the band did a couple things that are big pluses for me: An intense set no matter how small the crowd and I love it when the band members seem to enjoy the songs as much as playing them - singing along for themselves and not as backup. This band made me very happy that night. Stream/download from their myspace page or website Or if you're lazy: Betray the Sadness mp3...
