Hey you're back in town. So I've might have mentioned that October is the best month ever. This year has shaped out alright in my book. A list in no particular order: 1) My new job rocks. With each paycheck I receive a $20 gas card. Twice a week: free lunch. 2) Jessica Dobson (with Beck) on David Letterman!!  3) Ok this is about work again. Since I now interact with the purchasing department I often deal with vendor sale reps that come into work. Today I finally meet the one who part times in the world of porn (really). Mid to late 30s, 6 foot something with a grip of giant hands that frankly intimidated me. Everything screamed giant penis. As he stood up from the chair I swear that I and everything on the desk would be force pushed like droids blocking the path of Obi Wan. I'm posting out of order here... Quickly wanted to mention Airborne Toxic Event were great last night at the Echo and I enjoyed them far more this time then the couple shows I caught last year - due to no fault of their own but how incredibly tired or distracted I was. Corey enjoyed their sound akin to a mix of Bright Eyes and the Kinks (his words) while I kept thinking that I could see myself doing a lot more bouncing during their residency. Now The Happy Hollows were what we came to see and they delivered fantastic jangly noise rock with fits of overloaded power surges in an already energetic set. Artist: The Happy Hollows ( website , myspace ) Song: Meteors I've been just not caring about new (to me) bands all too much lately; not so much anti-music but just content with the regular fare served up by enjoyable bands and uninspiring sets by others. So Wednesday morning after reading multiple mentions in all the real LA music blogs, I spent a few minutes to check out the The Happy Hollows myspace page. This turns into 45 minutes of listening, watching, and downloading everything I could get online. I'm in the must see them live now mindset and hope they are as interesting as they come off in their videos. They sound sort of Pixies-ish in some songs, sort of plain silly-ish in others, and just all sorts of what I like in a band.
