Above: Los Abandoned @ Knitting Factory Spring cleaning: three drafts from December crammed into one long post: continue reading December 23 Los Abandoned @ Knitting Factory Before heading out to Hollywood I easily convinced Corey to hit Titos Tacos before picking up Ashley in downtown. I mention that only because I'm hungry right now and that sounds pretty tasty at the moment. Ashley gets into the car and she loves driving city streets to every destination and Corey thinks he knows how LA is laid out in perfect detail in his mind. We all agreed that the 101 was fucked, so I said take the 10 to La Brea but Corey said that seemed like it was going out of our way and since he was driver 8 he started up seventh and then east on Vermont. First time crossing the 101 grr, second time double grr, third crossing over it OMG god! I was beiong the uber back seat driver but come on, really, zig zagging around the 101 was anything but direct and if had just settled fortaking the 101 we w...

Los Abandoned - Electricidad video

Image
Simply put, Los Abandoned performs one of the most spirited shows in Los Angeles right now. I guess they would be filed under Rock en Espanol, but most of their songs are in English and what does it matter when you're bouncing around?. Regardless I would love to see them play Kiss or Kill on one of the all ages night at the Key Club just to mix things up a bit. It doesn't hurt that they can draw a good size audience either. LA myspace page LA website Catch them 12.14.05 at JC Fandango Anaheim, 10 bucks, all ages 8 pm The Tender Box, Enjambre, Los Abandoned, Volumen Cero Click to play the Electricidad video (wmv) or right click and save link: http://www.fakedoom.com/vapor/losabandoned/electricidad.wmv

Los Abandoned @ Echo 7.18.05 + 7.25

Image
Los Abandoned are playing one more early show at the Echo on 7.25 to test out new material plus new arrangements on some of the favorites. The show on last Monday was downright amazing. Doors at 8 show 8.30-9.30 Free if over 21, otherwise 5 bucks. They always nearly lie down during "Los Angeles", in every show I've seen, but this time they were completely flat for a couple minutes with nearly 80 percent of the large audience lying/sitting on the floor of the Echo. Yeah I didn't because that had to be the dirtiest floor ever, that and I was sort of sitting on the stage already. I looked back and saw my poor friend getting stared down by the little ones because she also remained solitarily upright in the middle of the floor. I lost the picture of that scene sadly. tags: los abandoned

Los Abandoned / Sonntag @ HOB last night

Image
Sonntag It's a good sign when you walk into a club in the middle of a band's set and like what you hear. That's what happened when I got to the House of Blues last night with my first introduction to Sonntag . This is the description from their cd baby link where you can buy the cd: Not your typical girl vocalist. Bumpy bass lines, electro beats and synth bits woven together by electric guitars that owe as much to punk-garage as they do to James Bond. This soundscape providing the backdrop to passionate tales of everyday existence. Walked around the place a bit and came upon this real cute girl handing out Sonntag stickers and pushing the CDs aggressively. I think she mentioned they had CDs at least four times. Attempted signing up for the mailing list with a sharpie, which is slightly better than using a piece of charcoal. 2nd band: Good. Corey thought that they had very poppy Matchbox 20 type of sound. Mainstream stuff. I was bored mostly because of how much I liked Son...

Los Abandoned Photo by Lissa Hahn Free Los Abandoned show - May 10th at the House of Blues - Sunset Strip. (thanks to some depression ) Baby Got Back I'm sorry. I mean Baby Got Book , as in The Book. Imagine what a christian rap artist/church founder/preacher would do with Sir Mix A Lot's "Baby Got Back" and you might think it would have to be just horrible. Well this music video by Southpaw remains faithful to Sir Mix A Lot's rhyme structure and the video is well done quality-wise, so check it out if you dare. (thanks to Andy K's blog) Bored? Los Abandoned is like the cure for the common cold.

Felt really ill for the last couple days, but dragged myself to see Los Abandoned play last night. I really wanted to go and it was five minutes from my house, so I couldn't say no even though it looked really iffy if my body would allow me. So Corey and I get there and this band is playing and 15 minutes go by when I noticed that people were clapping. I turned to Corey and asked ''Was that the same song that they were in the middle of when we walked in?" Apparently three songs were sort of blended together with very short breaks in-between. The next band was even worse...well the band was good but the singer sucked. They would play songs where the first half was great, then it seemed like a decision was made to ruin each one for the last half. One line went: "you are all slaves!...you are all slaves!". I wanted to shoot myself. Strange how much better I felt literally after LA played. Fun show, at least for me. Think they are playing Spaceland this we...

Tegan and Sara, Los Abandoned and the Ukulele

Image
The Ukulele is the new Theremin. It’s been building up for the last few years, but I predict more bands will be using them. Los Abandoned was amazing and the singer also used an ukulele for one of the songs which is cool. Anyhow their sound was influenced by No Doubt, with a hispanic tilt; an extremely tight set with tons of energy. A) I wished I knew Spanish to enjoy the lyrics, but most songs were in english, and B) The crowd enjoyed them, but I will see them next time headlining in front of their fans, for a even crazier show. Tegan and Sara were great! Didn't know much about them, but I now need to get some of their stuff now. My bitch about shows: I know people invite their friends to shows, saying "oh, you'll have fun, this band is great...I play that song all the time in the car", and of course their friend has no idea. Now this show probably created a bunch a new fans like me, but I can't stand those tag along friends that don't care about the band, ...
